Camas cruised to the 4A title, and Mountain View won by one stroke in 3A tourney
Two teams from Clark County are the best in their fields in high school golf.
The Camas girls golf team cruised to the Class 4A state championship on Wednesday, winning by 27 strokes at Creek of Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane.
Meanwhile, on the west side of the state, the Mountain View boys team claimed the Class 3A team title by a stroke at The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie in Lacey.

Washington Interscholastic Activities Association state championships were held throughout Washington for boys and girls golf in all classifications Tuesday and Wednesday.
Jacinda Lee of Camas was the region’s top individual placer. She finished second in the 4A girls tournament, leading the Papermakers to that team title. She fired a 76 and then a 74, finishing four strokes off the lead.
Jacob Parker of Seton Catholic finished third in the 1A boys tournament. He had a 75 and a 77 at Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis. Seton Catholic finished fourth in team points.
Three boys finished in the top 10 of the Class 2A tournament.
Trenton Maddox of Washougal recorded a 74-75 to finish sixth at Liberty Lake Golf Course. Jack Kendrick of Columbia River was right behind with a 76-74. And Washougal’s Mason Acker took eighth with a 76-75.
Washougal finished second as a team. Columbia River was third.
The 2A and 1A team competitions are decided by a points system.
For 4A and 3A, it is total strokes. A team has five players on the roster, and the top four scores from each day are used for the team total.
Three Camas Papermakers finished in the top 13 individually, leading the charge toward the team championship. After Lee’s second-place finish, Jasmine Chen finished fifth, and Rachel Rerick took 13th. Morgan Schlesinger and Isla Lucero also contributed to the championship effort.
Mountain View also had three players in the top 13. Alex Rigby followed a first-round 78 with a stellar 73 on Wednesday to tie for eighth place. Spencer Moody and Grady Millar tied for 13th place. Braden Kendrick and Reese Barner contributed to the team scoring, as well. And every stroke was needed. Mountain View beat Roosevelt by one stroke.
The state golf tournaments kick off spring sports championship week. Later this week, champions will be crowned in baseball, softball, boys soccer, as well as track and field and tennis.
