VANCOUVER – Clark County’s Master Composter Recycler program is offering a series of free composting webinars this spring.
The four composting webinars will teach people how to keep food scraps out of the landfill by using their curbside composting cart or setting up successful composting systems at home. Three different home composting methods are highlighted.
Pre-registration is required for all webinars. To register, visit the Master Composter Recycler webpage. Participants will receive a confirmation email after successful registration.
- Curbside Composting: Organics 101: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., April 14
- Backyard Composting: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., April 21
- Red Worm Composting: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., April 28
- Lasagna Garden Composting: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., May 5
The Curbside Composting webinar teaches residents who live within the Vancouver city limits how to add food scraps to their yard debris cart. Learn what is accepted in the curbside organics service and why, and where the material goes after leaving the curb.
The Backyard Composting webinar will teach participants how to construct a compost pile and get their compost piles to heat up.
The Red Worm Composting webinar will teach participants how to construct and maintain a worm bin. Worms and decomposers turn kitchen trimmings into all-natural fertilizer to help residents go chemical-free in their gardens. Participants will be eligible to receive a worm bin (supplies limited).
And Lasagna Garden Composting will teach participants how to build and plant a raised bed garden using free and easily obtainable urban wastes. No tilling or turning of compost piles is required with this method, and it can be used on top of clay, sand, grass and weeds.
