Area residents can get ready for some old-fashioned, small-town fun as Ridgefield School District prepares to celebrate Ridgefield’s proud past, prosperous present and promising future at Experience Ridgefield.

After being cancelled last year, the annual community carnival is set to return from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 11 at the Ridgefield Administrative & Civic Center (RACC) at 510 Pioneer Street in downtown Ridgefield.

Experience Ridgefield features a multitude of family-friendly activities including a game truck, an inflatable bouncy house, miniature golf, face painting, potato sack races, and a selfie photo booth. The festivities also include craft vendors, informational kiosks, and various local food vendors serving up scrumptious snacks, meals and beverages.

Ridgefield School District is grateful to title sponsor IQ Credit Union and supporting sponsors ABM Industries and Neil Daly’s State Farm Insurance Office for their support this year. This will be the district’s fifth year hosting the popular event.

Experience Ridgefield was born from a concept developed by students in grades 4-12 serving on Dr. Nathan McCann’s Superintendent Student Advisory Council (SSAC) in 2015. When school board members Scott Gullickson and Joseph Vance sought ideas for a district-hosted event that would bring the community together, the SSAC came up with the highly-interactive, carnival-like event designed to represent everything that makes Ridgefield unique and capture everything that they love about their community. Appropriately, they named their event Experience Ridgefield.

The students took the lead in creating and planning the event, and their marketing and promotional work brought in more than 40 vendors. Their extraordinary efforts launched the first Experience Ridgefield event in September 2016 at Ridgefield High School, and it was a phenomenal success.

“I’m so proud of all the creativity and planning put in by the students in developing an annual event that celebrates the spirit and pride of this amazing community,” said Dr. Nathan McCann, Ridgefield School District’s Superintendent.  “As always, we are grateful for the generosity of our partnering sponsors and the many local businesses, civic groups and public entities who continue to support Experience Ridgefield each year.”
