Vancouver dental practice is on a personal mission to help a local Veteran through free dental care
VANCOUVER – “I was shocked,” said U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Cory Martin when describing how she first reacted to learning about the special gift she is receiving for Veterans Day.
On Friday (Nov. 11), the official U.S. observance of Veterans Day, Martin, who has battled dental issues including a bad infection in her mouth, visited Affordable Dentures & Implants, 13503 Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard, Unit B-2 in Vancouver, to begin her free dental care, valued at $29,180. The dental care includes dental implant surgery, and implant-secured teeth that will allow Martin to eat the foods she enjoys and smile again.
“We wanted to help Martin and honor her for her service on Veterans Day,” explained Dr. Kenneth Killpack, Affordable Dentures & Implants dentist. “We know the difference that dental implants can make for a patient’s quality of life, and Martin deserves to eat and smile. She served our country, and we want to say thank you and support her.”
Martin is not alone in her dental care needs. According to the American College of Prosthodontists, 178 million Americans are missing at least one tooth and more than 35 million Americans are missing all their teeth on one or both arches. For most Military Veterans, like Martin, dental care is not included in their Military benefits.
“It feels good to be recognized for my service, especially being a female vet,” shared Martin. “So many other women have served and never received acknowledgement. I am thankful for this.”
Martin added, “I’m looking forward to eating anything again, especially being able to eat a salad.”
