A common refrain today is: speaking truth to power. This column does just that, but omits the over-arching reason for why one failed bridge project and a second attempt is failing with essentially the same bi-state staff is even possible. The public at some point must understand the reason to be, one-party rule. While the administrator continuously stated send us your comments, we are listening, what was never stated as reality, they were only listening, then disregarding all comments outside of their bubble. The same could be said for the political processes, conservative voices of reason, were being minimized or disregarded outright. With one-party rule the best ideas were not evaluated and without restraint, a bloated, wasteful project was conceived and took on a second life of its own. Had other voices been heard outside of their bubble , adult leadership, staff would have changed over the decades and direction would have been altered—to recognize and act on what the public was saying and what conservative voices have also been saying. Pretending to listen is not enough, but possible only with one-party rule. by Gary Medvigy Former chair of RTC
