Vancouver resident Adam Aguilera offers his support for Evergreen school levies
Editor’s note: Opinions expressed in this letter to the editor are those of the author alone and do not reflect the editorial position of ClarkCountyToday.com

I have spent my teaching career in Evergreen Public Schools for 17 years, and I have seen the value levy dollars give in expanding opportunities for Evergreen students.
Our extra-curricular activities make school a fun learning experience for kids. Hiring supportive staff provides more 1:1 attention for students in their studies and keeping them safe.
This election will be decided by you remembering to fill out your ballot and vote YES for safe schools and opportunities for Evergreen students. My students are depending on you. Thank you for voting.

Sure… just keep pouring money down that hole… more money is the cure for everything! More money will help, especially, with the downward spiral of academic scores that is currently being seen in Evergreen and Vancouver schools.
Yes, this is sarcasm.
But somehow you think less money will help?
With test score proficiencies in Mathematics at 31% (elementary), 21% (middle school) and 24% (high school) and Reading at 38% (elementary), 32% (middle school), 56% (high school), it’s pretty hard to support the mediocrity. If you or I performed at these levels at work, we’d be fired in a heart beat. Drastic changes to a system that hasn’t worked in decades need to happen ASAP. Continuing to give the district money to perform poorly is irresponsible.
Test scores are going to look bad if the tests are testing what is being taught. I bet the kids are doing just fine on the lessons they are given. But it takes many years to switch all the curriculum and lessons to the new state tests.
If you are really worried, find out if this is the case. I bet it is.
