Through the productivity of local youth at this year’s Clark County Fair, the contribution from YEAH will provide thousands of nutritious meals to families in need
Youth Efforts Against Hunger (YEAH) is proud to announce a major milestone in its mission to support local youth and strengthen the regional food system. Through the productivity of local youth at this year’s Clark County Fair, YEAH has delivered 10,500 pounds of high-quality protein to the Clark County Food Bank, providing thousands of nutritious meals to families in need.
YEAH’s innovative model not only empowers youth to raise high-quality project animals, YEAH then assists our community by providing high quality protein to the local food bank.
YEAH assists participants with the purchase of project animals, feed supplied through local feed-store partners, mentoring, and veterinary care. Additional resources — including infrastructure support, transportation, and processing at the end of the project — ensure youth can complete their projects successfully. YEAH, also purchases finished animals raised by youth at market value, helping young producers gain valuable experience and compensation for their work.
“Sustaining a local, high-quality food system is essential for our children’s future,” said Thomas Hann, Board Director, YEAH. “This program not only delivers food to families who need it most but also invests in the next generation of responsible, community-minded leaders.”
YEAH offers an integrated, community-driven program supported by strategic partnerships with youth organizations, local feed stores, meat processors, and the Clark County Fair. All of this is made possible through the generosity of Clark County families and local businesses. These collaborations help YEAH achieve its mission of:
- Supporting youth skill development in animal husbandry, record keeping, and project management
- Promoting civic engagement by encouraging youth to directly address food insecurity
- Strengthening communication and leadership skills through hands-on learning
- Preparing youth for future success, whether they pursue careers in agriculture or other fields
Just in time for Christmas, fifteen of YEAH youth members are raising an additional fifty turkeys to be delivered to the food bank mid-December. With the perpetual scholarship fund, YEAH is able to make continued investments in its youth for years to come.
“These achievements show what youth in our community can do when we work together,” said Dr. Scot Lubbers. “We’re building a stronger food system today while helping young people grow into tomorrow’s leaders.”
YEAH extends its gratitude to the families, businesses, and partners who make these accomplishments possible and invites additional community members to join in supporting future projects.
