Washougal Tree Lighting ceremony held as a virtual event

The city will hold the new ‘Ho Ho Holiday Drive-thru at the Plaza’ from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday

The city of Washougal held its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony Thursday evening but this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was held in a virtual format.

Area residents were able to view a live stream of the event on the city of Washougal Facebook page. The event included duets performed by Mary Templeton, Washougal School District superintendent, and community member Rod London. It culminated with Santa, Washougal Mayor Molly Coston, and several other special guests pushing the button to power the 40-foot lighted tree at Reflection Plaza.

“Ho Ho Holiday Drive-thru at the Plaza’’

On Sat., Dec. 5 the city of Washougal will hold the new “Ho Ho Holiday Drive-thru at the Plaza” from 2-4 p.m. on Pendleton Way between C and Main Streets. Learn about this event at cityofwashougal.us/HoHoHoliday.

City of Washougal staff continues to innovate to keep the holiday spirit alive with the creation of this new event to help families welcome the season. The annual tree lighting and lighted parade will not occur.

Area residents are encouraged to stop by Reflection Plaza in Downtown Washougal to wave at Santa from their car and receive a goodie bag filled with holiday treats. The goodie bag includes an ornament that can then be decorated. Participants can send a photo of their creation to be featured on the city of Washougal Facebook page.

Drive-thru participation only at the event and those in attendance are asked to wear a face covering. One bag per child, while supplies last.

Attendees of Saturday’s event can also help those in need this holiday season. The city will be accepting donations of new, clean socks at this event.
