Firefighters from the Vancouver Fire Department were dispatched Monday morning to a fire at Joe’s Crab Shack on the Vancouver waterfront.

The first fire crews arrived just five minutes after the original call, which came at 5:41 a.m., and found fire outside of the building. The fire was spreading inside the building and firefighters stretched several hose lines to attack the fire.

Columbia Way was temporarily shut down as a large diameter hose was extended from the fire hydrant across the road. Citizens were asked to avoid the area for several hours Monday morning.

The fire was initially knocked down in just 10 minutes but it wasn’t fully under control until 50 minutes into the operation. The building’s fire sprinkler system was activated which helped firefighters control the fire.

In total, 20 firefighters were on the scene along with the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office which is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Vancouver Fire Department’s boat was dispatched to the scene to assist firefighting efforts from the river but ultimately was not needed. No injuries were reported.
