At 7 p.m. Monday (Jan. 24), about 25 firefighters responded to the apartment building after witnesses called 9-1-1 stating that there was dense smoke coming from one of the apartments.

First-arriving fire crews found heavy gray smoke coming from a third floor apartment with the fire sprinkler system activated. Firefighters brought a hose line up to the third floor to extinguish the fire which proved strenuous due to the apartment’s congested personal belongings.

The fire was contained to the original apartment but other units suffered water damage. There are no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Red Cross officials were on scene to offer assistance to those displaced. One adult male resident was evaluated by EMS for smoke exposure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.
