The workers advised first-arriving units that they were welding while performing maintenance and a few embers had dropped down into the grain storage area, they found smoke and heat later in the area of the grain storage which had 200-300 pounds of grain in it and called 9-1-1.

Vancouver Fire’s Hazardous Materials team was called in to monitor the air and check for extension as smoke was noted throughout the building and grain elevator. All Vancouver units cleared the scene approximately two and one half hours later after the fire was under control and extinguished.
