At 12:18 a.m. Sunday (May 31), firefighters were dispatched to a grass or brush fire at 11581 NE 51st Circle in Vancouver.  While responding, the crews discovered this was a large houseless camp that was on fire with very large flames.

VFD requested additional units.  Four engines, one truck, one brush rig, one battalion chief and one fire marshal responded. In total, there were a total of 18 people along with two Vancouver Police officers who were on scene.

After a fast response to the area, access was made difficult by concrete barricades blocking the road to the camp.  Crews had to lay several hundred feet of supply line to access the seat of the fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control after they made access to the fire itself.  No injuries were reported.  The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
