20th District lawmaker positioned to play a key role in guiding legislative priorities
Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, has been elected House Republican Caucus Chair, positioning him to play a key role in guiding legislative priorities, advancing solutions for Washingtonians, and supporting Republican lawmakers.
“It’s an honor to lead as House Republican Caucus Chair and to work with my colleagues on the issues that matter most to our state,” said Abbarno. “We face significant challenges this session–from ensuring public safety to addressing affordability without new taxes–and I’m committed to helping our caucus develop solutions that strengthen communities across the state.”
As Caucus Chair, Abbarno will set the agenda for caucus meetings, lead internal strategy discussions, and coordinate closely with Senate Republicans and statewide leaders to advance key legislative goals.
Additionally, Abbarno has been appointed the assistant ranking Republican on the House Capital Budget Committee, reflecting his leadership on critical infrastructure and community investments.
“The capital budget isn’t just numbers on a page–it directly impacts our schools, local infrastructure, and the everyday needs of our communities,” added Abbarno, who will continue his role as a budget negotiator. “I look forward to helping champion smart investments that ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”
The House Capital Budget Committee oversees the state’s capital budget, funding the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure, including schools, state buildings, housing, and community projects. The committee also considers policies on public works, state property, and long-term investments like broadband and parks.
Abbarno will also serve on the House Environment and Energy Committee, the House Consumer Protection and Business Committee, and the House Rules Committee.
The House Environment and Energy Committee considers policy on climate, clean energy, and environmental protection. The House Consumer Protections and Business Committee focuses on consumer rights, business regulation, and financial services. The House Rules Committee determines which bills advance to the House floor for debate and final votes.
The 2025 legislative session will begin on Jan. 13 and run for 105 days.
