VANCOUVER – The Clark County Law Library this week announced the addition of a replevin kit to its array of self-help kits. Replevin is a legal action someone takes to seek the return of personal property wrongfully taken or held by the defendant.

“This is designed to get personal property that you own from someone who won’t give it back to you,” said Law Librarian Maria Sosnowski. “Typical situations include when you break up with someone and they keep your dog or your car.”

The kit includes the forms and instructions to ask for a court order requiring a person or business to return a specific piece of personal property valued at $300 or more. The personal property cannot be land or buildings.

The replevin self-help kit will be available on the county’s website beginning on Mon., May 2. Kits also can be purchased at the Law Library on the first floor of the courthouse at 1200 Franklin St. The kit costs $50, shipping is $10 and there is a $2 fee when using a credit card.

Information on Clark County Law Library’s wide variety of self-help kits including ordering instructions is available on the county’s website at https://clark.wa.gov/law-library/self-help-form-kit.
