For travelers on northbound I-205, all exits before the Glenn Jackson Bridge, including Airport Way, will remain open. Washington-bound northbound travelers should follow the signed detour to Interstate 84 west to northbound Interstate 5.

For southbound travelers on I-205 in Washington, all exits prior to the Glenn Jackson Bridge will be open. Southbound travelers bound for Oregon should follow the signed detour to westbound State Route 14 to southbound I-5 into Oregon.

The new sign bridge is 166 feet long and spans both directions of the freeway. When installed, it will house Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) RealTime advisory speed signs for northbound travelers and an updated travel time destination sign for southbound travelers.

Advisory speed signs display advisory speeds based on the traffic conditions ahead and change as real-time conditions change. These signs give drivers a heads-up to slow down before they reach a problem area, helping reduce rear-end crashes and the congestion they cause.

The signs will be installed and turned on at a later date.

The work schedule could change depending on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

This effort is part of the I-205 Paving, Auxiliary Lanes and ODOT RealTime Signs project from Johnson Creek Boulevard to the Glenn Jackson Bridge.

This project also includes construction of three new auxiliary lanes. A southbound auxiliary lane between Interstate 84 eastbound and the southbound Division/Powell on-ramp opened in spring 2019. A northbound auxiliary lane from I-84 east to the Killingsworth Street exit opened July 26, 2019. Another northbound auxiliary lane from Powell Boulevard to I-84 westbound is under construction and will open before the end of the year.

Installation of nearly 20 new sign structures to support ODOT RealTime Signs and other directional signs along the corridor will cause additional nighttime closures of one or both directions of I-205 in the months ahead.
