Deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office had been sent to the residence for a burglar alarm

A house east of Ridgefield sustained significant heat and smoke damage in an early morning fire Friday.

Units from Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue and Clark County Fire District 3 were dispatched at 12:11 a.m. Friday (Nov. 19) to the report of a house on fire at 24317 NE 37th Avenue in Clark County. Deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office had been sent to the residence for a burglar alarm.

Deputies arrived to find smoke in the residence and called for firefighters to respond. The Deputies did not find any sign of forced entry into the house. The residence had a monitored burglar alarm system, but not a fire alarm system. It appears the smoke and heat tripped the burglar alarm.

When fire crews arrived, they found the house full of hot, dense smoke and high heat. The search of the residence found that no one was inside. Additional resources, including a fire engine from the Vancouver Fire Department, were called to the scene due to the size of the structure and the fire conditions.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire. The main body of fire was located in the kitchen. Fire crews extinguished the fire and vented smoke and heat out of the home. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen. However, the entire house sustained significant heat and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office. There were no injuries during this incident.
