Clark County seeks volunteer residential park host for Lewisville Regional Park

VANCOUVER – Clark County Public Works is seeking applicants interested in serving as the volunteer park host at Lewisville Regional Park. Volunteer park hosts live at their assigned park and assist with creating a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors. Host duties include (but are not limited to): 

• Cleaning park restrooms daily and as needed in response to messes. 

• Opening park gates by 7 a.m. and closing gates at dusk (one half-hour after sunset) daily.

• Notify park users that the park is closing. 

• Emptying park garbage cans at least once daily. 

• Picking up litter daily. 

• Notifying staff of emergencies, urgent maintenance needs or impacts of severe weather. 

• Helping to identify and respond to safety and security concerns in the park. 

The park host at Lewisville must reside in the county-owned residence at the park. The residence includes a washer/dryer, refrigerator and basic kitchen appliances. Clark County provides basic utilities for the host including electricity, water, sewer and garbage/recycling. The host must provide their own phone and internet service. A maximum of two adults and two minors/dependents may reside at the park residence. 

The duration of a park host service term is one calendar year; this position would serve through Dec. 31, 2022. A host may be offered a term for the next calendar year, based on results of a performance evaluation performed in the fall. There is no maximum to the number of consecutive terms a host may serve. 

The applicant offered the position must submit to state and federal background checks and fingerprinting, provide a rental history and proof of renter’s insurance. The successful candidate will not be able to move to the park and begin service until they have supplied all required documents and been cleared through the background check and fingerprinting process. This can take six to eight weeks or longer, from the time the position is offered and accepted. Applicants should plan accordingly.

Lewisville Regional Park is Clark County’s oldest park, built as part of the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. The 159-acre park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Clark County Heritage Register. The park encompasses forests and meadows along the East Fork Lewis River. Park features include 13 reservable picnic shelters, a small boat launch, 2.8-mile trail, baseball/softball fields, basketball half-court and 15 playgrounds.
