As the teachers’ strike continues in its second week in the Camas School District, the district and its Public School Employees Union (PSE) have reached a three-year tentative bargaining agreement. The PSE is the labor union representing the Camas School District’s nearly 650 custodians, bus drivers, paraeducators, food services workers, technology, mechanics, and maintenance employees.
“The Camas School District is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to providing quality education and support to its students,’’ read a statement from the Camas School District late Wednesday. “Today, the district and the Public School Employees (PSE) union reached a three-year tentative bargaining agreement. The negotiations spanned several months and were characterized by a spirit of cooperation and respect.’’
According to the statement, the PSE negotiation team expressed their appreciation, emphasizing the dedication exhibited by both sides. In a separate statement, they said, “We truly appreciate the collaborative process during our negotiations and how diligently both sides worked to create a fair agreement that reflects the values of our district.”
“In addition to salary enhancements, this agreement addresses numerous issues seeking to ensure our valued support staff feel seen and heard. It also reinforces positive and inclusive working environments,” said Marilyn Boerke, the lead negotiator for the Camas School District during this negotiation.
The district’s statement continued, “As the Camas School District moves forward with this new agreement, it remains focused on its mission of empowering students to achieve their full potential and preparing them for a successful future.’’
