Auditor announces results of general election recount for Vancouver Council, Hockinson School District races


Recount results do not change the outcome of either tight race

VANCOUVER – On Monday (Dec. 6) a mandatory manual recount began of the ballots cast in the Nov. 2 general election for the city of Vancouver councilor, Position No. 1 race and Hockinson School District director, District No. 1 position was conducted and is now complete.

The unofficial results of the recount for the city of Vancouver council race show the vote totals changed slightly by two votes from the official election results as of Nov. 23. For the city of Vancouver council race, Kim Harless received one additional vote with a total of 16,845 votes and John Blom received one additional vote with a total of 16,790 votes. There are two ballots still to be reviewed by the canvassing board to determine a name variation that was written on the write-in line. 

For the Hockinson School District race, the results of the hand count matched exactly the results of the machine count with Teresa VanNatta receiving 1,600 votes and Tim Hawkins receiving 1,589 votes. 

The recount will be certified on Mon., Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. Once certified, the recount results will be posted on the County Election’s website at http://www.clark.wa.gov/elections.
