PeaceHealth debuts online training program for hospice

Hospice volunteers can serve in a variety of important roles

VANCOUVER — PeaceHealth Hospice is implementing a new online training program for people who would like to volunteer but have been unable to attend our daytime trainings.

“We wanted to offer another training option for people who want to volunteer, but have difficulty committing to our full-day training session,” said PeaceHealth Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Linde. “Our in-person sessions are not going away. This online training option is simply an enhancement to our volunteer training program.”

Hospice volunteers can serve in a variety of important roles, ranging from greeting guests or performing a variety of other roles at the Ray Hickey Hospice House to providing respite care, working on the No One Dies Alone team (NODA), or helping with office functions.

People interested in volunteering must attend two evening sessions. The first, on Wed., March 13 offers an opportunity to meet the staff, obtain necessary online training credentials, and enjoy refreshments. Potential volunteers will then spend the next month training online at their own pace before reuniting in person on April 10 for a Q&A session and complete necessary paperwork.

“We rely on our volunteers to make our hospice program work,” said Linde. “It’s a really rewarding opportunity for people who want to help others through a very difficult time.”

People interested in the PeaceHealth Hospice online training program must call (360) 696.5069 to pre-register. The in-person meetings on March 13 and April 10 will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at PeaceHealth Hospice, located at 5400 MacArthur Boulevard in Vancouver.
