Each year, Battle Ground Police Department employees select an officer to recognize for his or her exemplary performance
Officer Brian Archer, an 18-year veteran of the Battle Ground Police Department, is the recipient of the 2023 Officer of the Year Award.
Each year, Battle Ground Police Department employees select an officer to recognize for his or her exemplary performance. In 2023, Officer Archer played a significant role in the implementation of the department’s Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) program. The program has been a great success and continues to develop, thanks in large part to Officer Archer’s contributions.
As a UAS pilot, Officer Archer had the first “capture” when he successfully located a suspect in a felony domestic violence case. The suspect fled on foot and Officer Archer was called in to assist with tracking the suspect using the drone. Officer Archer demonstrated creativity and out of the box thinking in this case, that led to the safe apprehension of the suspect.
In addition to the UAS program, Officer Archer serves as an Acting Supervisor and is a valued Field Training Officer (FTO). With an unprecedented year of hiring for the Battle Ground Police Department, the Field Training program has maintained a steady stream of officer trainees. Officer Archer’s experience and knowledge has not only been critical to the FTO process, but his willingness to help other officers and the department is valuable beyond words, setting himself apart as a mentor.
Officer Archer’s service extends beyond his duty as a police officer. He is extensively involved in Community Policing and Engagement efforts, participating in events like Shop with a Cop, National Night Out, and even playing a pickup game of cornhole with community members at a block party.
“Brian’s dedication and hard work have not only made a significant impact on our department but also on the community we serve,” said Lieutenant Jason Perdue. “We are proud to have Brian as a member of our team, and we look forward to his continued success in the future.”
Officer Archer was presented with a plaque to commemorate this achievement, which reads “For his outstanding service to the community, which reflects the mission and values of the Battle Ground Police Department.” Join city of Battle Ground officials in congratulating Officer Brian Archer as our 2023 Officer of the Year.
