As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation, I find myself reflecting on one of America’s greatest strengths: the ability of citizens to govern themselves through free and fair elections.

For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have defended and strengthened a system that allows every eligible citizen to have a voice. While we may disagree on policies, candidates, or the direction of government, our shared commitment to participating in the democratic process is what keeps our republic strong.

The freedoms we enjoy today were secured through the sacrifices of those who came before us. One of the best ways we can honor that legacy is by remaining engaged in our communities and exercising our right to vote.

Through my years working in county government, I’ve seen firsthand that elections succeed when citizens take the time to participate and make their voices heard. Every ballot cast is a reminder that our government remains accountable to the people it serves.

The future of our republic is shaped not only in Washington, D.C., but in communities like Clark County where neighbors take the time to stay informed, participate, and vote.

Here in Clark County, we are fortunate to have a long tradition of civic participation. Whether you vote, volunteer in your community, serve as an election worker, or simply encourage friends and neighbors to stay informed, your involvement matters.

As we mark this historic milestone, let us celebrate not only our nation’s past but also our responsibility to its future. Democracy works best when citizens participate. I encourage everyone to take part in our elections and make their voice heard.

Happy Independence Day, and here’s to the next 250 years of American self-government.
