The Washougal City Council has begun a national search for the community’s next city manager following the announcement that current City Manager David Scott will retire in spring 2027. The city aims to have a new city manager in place by mid-March 2027.

GMP Consultants, a national executive search firm specializing in public-sector leadership, is leading the process. The firm will conduct a broad recruitment to identify qualified candidates from across the country. The Council chose a national search to provide a transparent, competitive process and ensure all qualified candidates receive fair consideration, including any internal candidates who may apply.

“Investing in this professional national recruitment process reflects the City Council’s shared commitment to bringing on the best next leader to help guide Washougal into the future,” said Mayor David Stuebe.

The city manager leads Washougal’s municipal operations, oversees city departments and implements the policy direction set by the elected City Council.
