Current Estimated costs per WSDOT up to $15.2 BILLION, and could be much higher based on TRIMET cost overruns in OR and Sound Transit cost overruns in Puget Sound area in WA.
“Sound Transit, the agency in charge of the three-county light rail program, recently announced a shocking, $35 billion cost overrun on its ST3 Program, bringing total program costs to at least $185 billion; just for light rail…With approximately 3.4 million people in the district, the new cost estimates equate to about $55,000 for every man, woman, and child within the district.”

I can’t see the justification for charging toll on a bridge that is about 1/2 mile long and how do they plan to collect tolls on it because I-5 is a major highway from Calif. to Canada.

This not a REAL business proposal, of course. Not yet, anyway.

But could a car owner make $12k a year? That’s the plan. 1,000 miles a month (averaging 35 miles a day). After 3 years the car is paid for and you use it anytime you want. In the real world, with insurance and maintenance, we’d probably need at least a 30 percent subsidy. Lots cheaper than Max which is subsidized 90%. And ONE Vancouver stop. How convenient is that?

More of the same. “it’s wrong, wrong, wrong”… yet nothing happens other than those of us here on CCT comments get to whine some more.

When we gonna see that an organized campaign is underway, alerting the Federal Transportation Agency and the Sec. of Transportation, on an ongoing basis, about this colossal boondoggle? When we gonna see an organized effort underway to obtain a Federal Court injunction? When we gonna see ANYTHING of substance happen, other than whining?

It took only days (hours, really) before the first lawsuit was filed that will force court review of the new State income tax. The IBR fiasco has been known about for two years or longer… and John is still here stirrin’ up the pot, making us all angry, and whining some more. But no action.

I am soooo tired of complain complain complain… yet no one seems to be taking any action. And don’t tell me to “write my congressman.” We all know that’s of no value whatsoever.

The City has made up its mind. Light rail is coming. Nothing voters or anybody else wants will change their minds. The folks that brought us fleets of big empty buses want to give us a bunch of expensive empty rail cars. When commuters, trucks, and others are stuck paying tolls any rail riders fares will be paid mostly by taxpayers. After all, what are taxes for?
