Candidate Heidi St. John believes focus should be on upcoming election and not on accepting candidate Joe Kent’s offer to debate this month
A pair of Republican challengers to incumbent Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District don’t agree on the timing or urgency to debate at this time.
Byron Sanford, the campaign manager for Yacolt resident Joe Kent, sent out a news release Monday (Oct. 11) announcing candidate Heidi St. John had agreed to a debate with Kent.

“We are grateful that Heidi St. John’s campaign has accepted our offer of a debate,’’ Sanford said in the statement. “While our candidate has appeared side by side on many occasions with our challenger, our frequent offers to debate over many months as well as an invitation to a debate from the Chairman of Clark County GOP, has not been met with an affirmative response until now.’’
Two days later, St. John’s campaign issued a statement refuting Sanford’s claim. The statement indicated that St. John is looking forward to debating other Republicans in the race, but discussing such an idea before the November 2021 election is just “silly.”

Kent’s proposal reportedly was for a radio debate held in late October, 10 months before the August 2022 primary election. The statement from St. John’s campaign explained that the proposed debate would have come “at a time when local school board and municipal candidates are struggling to generate turnout.’’
“Right now our focus needs to be on turning out every single conservative over the next three weeks to counter the millions George Soros and the rest of the radical left elite will be pumping into GOTV in an effort to steal these elections,” St. John said. “Our nation faces a real threat from the Communist Left and it’s not just from Biden and Congress, but also from woke progressives on a local level who want to destroy our families, our neighborhoods, our churches, and our freedom. Folks on the local level fighting these battles need our support now more than ever. Let’s wait until November 2021 is over before scheduling 2022 debates and give these candidates the help they need to win and fight back.’’
Sanford’s statement indicated that long-time conservative radio talk show host Lars Larson would have hosted the proposed debate.
“He is a local broadcast legend known for fairness and trustworthiness,’’ Sanford said. “His show dominates the ratings in Washington’s Third Congressional District and offers a greater audience than any other local platform.’’
As for the timing of a debate between candidates in the 3rd Congressional District race, Sanford offered a reason for the urgency to hold an event sooner rather than later.
“There is no Republican Primary in Washington State,’’ Stanford said. “This debate is about determining the best candidate to go forward against Jaime Herrera Beutler in the first round of voting. More than one anti-Establishment candidate only spoils the race in favor of the incumbent.’’
St. John’s campaign said that they never had to decline an offer of a debate because Kent’s campaign never actually made one.
“The Kent Campaign has a serious problem with self aggrandizement,” St. John Campaign Manager Lisa D’Andrea told Clark County Today. “We have never been asked by his campaign nor any other group including the Clark County Republican Party to debate. The county chairman Joel Mattila even confirmed that to me.
“People will soon begin to understand there is more to Mr. Kent than they realize and he will do anything to make sure he is the only Republican challenger to the incumbent including lie in his press releases,” D’Andrea added. “He and his team have a very difficult relationship with the truth.”
My understanding is that Wadi Yakhour dropped out after Joe Kent got Trump’s endorsement.
Well, first of all, no matter how you spin it, St. John is a liar. I will not vote for a liar regardless. She pledged to leave the race, to me, personally, if Mr. Trump didn’t endorse her. She didn’t mention any exclusions or exceptions that would be justification for failing to leave. I was, in fact, repeatedly assured that Trump’s endorsement of her was in the bag. I guess he never got the memo.
Clearly, spin notwithstanding, that was never her intention.
Further, she is a total union supporter, which is the last thing we need in Congress.
Second, she doesn’t want to debate Kent because her depth of knowledge about any CONGRESSIONAL subject is a mile wide and an inch deep. In fact, she hasn’t been running for Congress as much as she’s been doing this to increase her visibility for listenership on her multiple media money-makers.
The job needs someone who understands the business of Congress and she has yet to show any such understanding. She’s had months to get up to speed on issues like foreign policy, domestic terrorism (or terrorism generally) the strategic threats of China and Russia, the border issues/illegal alien problems we face, the national debt and a wide variety of other issues handled at the CONGRESSIONAL level. She never bothered.
So, because of my decades in politics, I totally get why there’s not going to be a debate. If their were, she’d get her political head handed back to her in a basket.
She knows this. And the word we’re searching for is “cowardice.”
Sorry, but there it is.
KJ Hinton is himself lying covering for a verifiable liar Ore VOTER DEMOCRAT 2020 Democrat Registered voter Lil Joe Kent.
You see Kent’s campaign can’t handle Heidi’s overwhelming popular events. So much so that his campaign has threatened a Church with legal consequences!
His plethora of lies and swamp creature attitude is disgusting.
Remember when Rush Limbaugh kept urging Republicans to vote for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 primary election to prolong the fight between her and Obama, and divide the vote? Strategic crossover voting is a well-known political tactic, and in states like Oregon you must affiliate with a party to vote for their candidates in the primary. Joe has openly talked about his registration as a Democrat many times, and he has stated which presidential candidate he voted for in each election, none of whom were Democrats.
That Heidi and her followers have continued to dishonestly accuse and spread rumors that Joe Kent “is a Democrat” after his repeated explanation smacks of both dishonesty and desperation. I’ve always appreciated HSJ’s work on home schooling issues, and I’m saddened and disappointed by her and others whom I’ve respected over the years stooping to deceptive campaign maneuvers commonly used by leftists.
So go ahead and continue supporting a self confessed Bernie supporter. Let’s see how that works out for you.
You need to get to know her more.
Joe Kent has done nothing but lie his whole run! how does a person plop into a state and decide he loves the area so very much and cares for the people so much (oh wait he actually still wasn’t living in the home) then decide they run for office! He has lied to many times about himself to prove to Washington’s district 3 he is here for us. He is here as a puppet. We already have one in office! His campaign team is foul, attacking, nasty and lie. That reflects who Joe is. I heard he had to put a Code of Conduct out for his team. His team does not respect him, how are people going to treat him in office??!!
we need some one who has proven to have morals. Joe likes to lie and twist things.
We already have that in office her name is Jamie.
Joe wants to put land limits on people. So many things that reflect his Democratic back ground.
we are fighting for our future generations! This man has shown he is another Jamie!
I cannot speak about his every supporter, but I can say with certainty that Joe Kent’s behavior in this campaign is best described by D.L. Moody’s maxim that, “The best way to show that a stick is crooked is not to argue about it or to spend time denouncing it, but to lay a straight alongside it.”Joe Kent’s campaign remarks address Jaimie H-B’s political policies and actions, his practical solutions to our problems, and the need to make America first; all while demonstrating a thorough knowledge of both national and international issues.Your post clearly exhibits which side has been engaging in “foul, attacking, nasty, and lie” behavior and conducting themselves in a Hillaryesque manner. You saying, “I heard…” (without links, quotes or evidence of any kind), perfectly illustrates HSJ and followers’ increasing reliance on mean girl gossip, innuendo, purposeful mischaracterization and disgusting personal attacks spread through church and homeschool social media. Those actions are not indicative of a person, “proven to have morals.”
What happened to my paragraphs? Lol!
What is the name of the “technology company” Kent allegedly works for as a “project manager”. Why did Ken’ts appearance change so drastically when he decided to move to Washington and run for office? Is it believable that Kent joined the CIA for only 10 months? Too many questions and clues that point to Kent being a Manchurian candidate. Wake up people! Start thinking critically.
I took a phone call poll last week and I said I was voting for Joe Kent. I was unaware he was a registered democrat in Oregon (can’t remember the years 2019 or 2020), has endorsed Bernie Sanders and thinks there should be a cap on land ownership. ( there were 2 other issues I wasn’t a fan of, I can’t remember the all the details on.) I’m looking forward to a debate.
So, you were push-polled. It happens. But push-polling is a sign that whoever is paying for it is panicked. Are those issues factual? No idea. But I stand by my assessment.
If you are sincerely interested in the truth, I urge you to contact Joe Kent yourself and give him the opportunity to answer any of your questions. You can also contact Matt Braynard at matt@braynard.com.
Kent won’t tell you the truth. He was a registered Democrat and he has publicly supported Bernie Sanders. But go ahead vote for the Manchurian candidate.
I responded to the registered as a Democrat issue above. Here is a statement from the campaign on limiting property ownership. Here is a statement from a campaign official regarding the mischaracterization of Joe Kent’s position on limiting property ownership:
We know Mrs. St. John has said Joe is in favor of limiting property rights. That incorrect statement comes from her inability to understand the complex economic issues facing the middle class Americans.
Joe does not think corporate oligarchs and the world’s largest asset manager, Blackrock Inc, should be able to take advantage of inflationary spending and money printing to secure loans at 1.4% ABL when interest rates are 3%. Blackrock is an asset manager that receives cash injections from Klaus Schwab of the world economic forum, the Chinese Communist Party, and George Soros. Some of their famous clients are the Obamas, the Clintons, and Podesta.
While Blackrock receives loans at 1.4% and uses foreign cash to buy entire neighborhoods all across the United States, inflation works in their favor so that their debt will be effectively wiped off the books and their assets will skyrocket in value. They will then be renting these homes back to the millennials and generation z, who will be unable to afford homes at the inflated prices in a neutered American economy. It will turn entire generations into forever renters and essentially make the United States a land based aristocracy.
The United States has always had so much social mobility because the abundance of property and thriving economy allowed families to purchase homes, build equity in them, and pass them on to their children. If conglomerates and big-tech oligarchs are able to inflate home prices and purchase farm land they will eliminate this possibility and kill the American dream.
Joe does not believe in limiting property rights for Americans, however he does not believe enemies such as the CCP should be able to buy massive amounts of land or that Anti-American oligarchs should be able to use predatory economic practices to turn the future generations of Americans into serfs. He will work to develop policies that force these anti-American billionaires to pay their fair share of taxes and punish them for predatory economic practices.
Joe Kent is a Socialist of the Bernie type persuasion who want to live lavishly on the taxpayers back while wanting to confiscate private land. Go read his Commie tweets. If you listened to the debate on May 31, you’ll see he has no Republican principles and zero knowledge or understanding of the Constitution. He should go out and work in the private sector so he can learn the meaning of free entreprise and private property.
“St. John’s campaign issued a statement refuting Sanford’s claim.” Even the most inexperienced campaign worker would never release a statement regarding an agreement with another candidate without something in writing, which I’ve confirmed exists. It’s my understanding that after Heidi through her campaign manager accepted the offer of a debate, she then refused all five dates that were offered by the Kent campaign.
Sanfords “claims” are lies.
not one formal request for a debate until now. They can’t stand it that Heidi can draw 600 people to an event in the middle of the week..
This is laughable except They threatened the church that allowed this event. What kind of sick people do that to a church? Swamp creatures.
Joe’s campaign is spitting tacks and throwing jacks hoping voters will ignore his Democrat voting record and zero experience in the private sector as an employer or employee.
Crickets…
Look like it’s a Trump-off to see who loses in 2022.
One candidate, on record, said that they would drop out once Trump made his endorsement then changed their mind when they weren’t the candidate endorsed. Lying, particularly when the lie is easily identified, is a very strong Trump move: 1 point. The other candidate used to be a Democrat, but sees an opportunity to take advantage of a fickle voting pool, also a very strong Trump move: tied 1-1.
I’m pretty sure neither candidate dodged the draft, so unfortunately no points there. I assume any sexual assault allegations would have come to light by now, so again no points. Neither candidate, that I’m aware of, threatened to sue the schools they went to if they released their grades so that won’t settle who is the Trumpiest. Unless their is an eventual debate it will be difficult to determine if either candidate emulates Trump in being wholly ignorant of the Constitution or the Bible, so we remain tied.
To break the tie I suggest you add up their bankruptcies and divorces… that’s how you show your business acumen and commitment to family values to the Trump constituency. Winner gets to lose in 2022 and claim the election was stolen from them.
Kent lied to St. John about being a “staunch conservative”, so I’m glad she broke her promise. Breaking a promise is not equivalent to lying. The only liar here is Kent who claimed to be a staunch conservative after being a registered Democrat from Portland and voting for Bernie Sanders.
