🎧 Fatal Shooting at Hockinson Meadows Park: One Arrested
Witnesses reported that a handgun discharged while it was in the hands of 18-year-old James Gill, an acquaintance of the deceased
On Saturday (Aug. 15), shortly after 1:00 a.m., Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Hockinson Meadows Community Park, located at 10910 NE 172nd Ave., Brush Prairie, for a report of an 18-year-old male with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Several vehicles were leaving the area as deputies, Vancouver Police Department officers, and American Medical Response (AMR) personnel arrived. AMR personnel determined the male was deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates that a large group of people, mostly in their late teens, had gathered at the park. Witnesses reported that a handgun discharged while it was in the hands of 18-year-old James Gill, an acquaintance of the deceased. A Glock 17 handgun was recovered from the scene.
Gill was booked into the Clark County Jail on a charge of Second-Degree Manslaughter.
This remains an active investigation, and no additional information is being released at this time. The identification of the deceased as well as the cause and manner of death may be requested through the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.
