Early results indicate Mitchell Kelly and Eileen Quiring O’Brien likely to advance to November general election in race for county auditor

The initial results of the Aug. 4 primary election were released Tuesday night, revealing likely decisions by voters of candidates who will advance to the November general election.

In races involving more than two candidates, Washington’s top-two primary determines which candidates advance from the primary to the general election, regardless of political party. In Clark County several races had more than two candidates including the race for county auditor. Long-time Auditor Greg Kimsey is not seeking re-election.

The initial results indicate Mitchell Kelly and Eileen Quiring O’Brien will likely advance to the general election. Kelly’s professional experience includes service in the Clark County Auditor’s Office, including time as deputy county auditor. He currently has 25,310 votes (29.15 percent). Quiring O’Brien, former chair of the Clark County Council, has 24,956 votes (28.74 percent). Vancouver City Councilor Ty Stober has 19,841 votes (22.85 percent) and State Rep. Sharon Wylie (49th District) has 16,720 votes (19.26 percent).

Three seats on the Clark County Council will be decided in the November general election and two of those three races had more than two candidates in the August primary election.

In the race for Position 1 on the County Council, current Councilor Glen Yung is leading the primary with 5,481 votes (36.65 percent). Bryan Shull, president of the Uptown Village Association, appears to be advancing to the general election with 4,341 votes (29.03 percent). Dusti Arab has 3,606 votes (24.11 percent) and Lukas Bardue has 1,528 votes (10.22 percent).

In the race for the County Council District No. 2 seat, current Councilor Michelle Belkot is leading with 9,334 votes (51.18 percent). John Zingale, a Vancouver Education Association union representative, appears to be her competitor in the November general election. Zingale has 6,360 votes (34.87 percent). Martin Pittioni has 2,544 votes (13.95 percent).

Current Clark County Council Chair Sue Marshall is not seeking re-election to the District 5 position. Battle Ground City Councilor Troy McCoy will face Charter Review Commissioner Peter Silliman in the November general election. McCoy has 10,169 votes (52.54 percent) in the primary election and Silliman has 9,184 (47.46 percent).
