Clark County medical examiner identifies victim of murder-suicide

Vancouver man shot 7-year-old daughter and then turned handgun on himself

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s office has confirmed the victim of a murder-suicide that took place late last week in the Felida area.

The medical examiner’s report stated that 40-year-old John Maul and his 7-year-old daughter were found dead Friday (June 12) in the father’s residence. It was determined that John Maul died of a gunshot wound of the head with a handgun. The manner of death was determined to be suicide.

Seven-year-old Lennox Maul died of a gunshot wound of the head.

“It’s a tragedy that affects not only the family but also the first responders who showed up at the scene,’’ said Sgt. Brent Waddell of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The mother of the deceased girl is a resident of Southwest Washington, but not a resident of the address where the bodies were found, according to law enforcement officials.
