🎧 Code Red: Bloodworks Northwest Needs Donors Now
Blood donors are needed, and those who donate this month are eligible to win a $10,000 gift card for gas
The region is in desperate need of blood.
Bloodworks Northwest, an independent nonprofit organization that provides safe, lifesaving blood supply to 95 percent of hospitals in the Pacific Northwest, is reporting a Code Red emergency shortage of blood.
That means there is less than a one-to-two-day supply of blood available for patients in the region.
There are more than 20,000 available blood donation appointments available between now and the end of the month, and many more before Labor Day.
The shortage, according to Bloodworks, comes during the 100 Deadliest Days, the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when car crashes and traumatic injuries spike, at roughly the same time blood donations drop.
Local hospitals continue to rely on blood for emergency care, cancer treatments, surgeries, transplants, and more.
Last month, Bloodworks Northwest brought in blood from other parts of the country to keep up with high demand.
Bloodworks Northwest is asking not only for donations, but for donors to tell their friends, as well.
To schedule an appointment, go to: bloodworksnw.org/giveblood
Or call: 800-398-7888.
Bloodworks Northwest is also awarding one donor a $10,000 gas card for giving in July. The theme is you’ve got the fuel to save a life. For more information on that, go to: https://bloodworksnw.org/about/news/win
