Change is effective in July 2018; Stromme to become associate superintendent
VANCOUVER — Vancouver Public Schools announced today that Dr. Michael Stromme, the superintendent of Washougal School District since July 2015, plans to rejoin the VPS executive team as associate superintendent for administrative services. The job change is effective July 2018 and is subject to formal approval by the VPS board of directors.
As associate superintendent for VPS, Stromme will oversee divisions responsible for K-12 school operations, academic programs, career and technical education, instructional technology, and special services. He also will provide leadership in completing $563 million of school construction and renovation projects, which are being funded by bond proceeds, a state grant for class-size reduction, and state construction assistance funds.
In Washougal, Stromme led a school construction program, completing capital projects totaling $60 million. Additionally, he was responsible for all aspects of district operations and organizational planning processes. Major accomplishments during Stromme’s tenure included voter approval of a levy for maintenance and operations, necessary revisions to school attendance boundaries, and collective bargaining agreements with employee associations.

Stromme previously dedicated 21 years of his career to VPS as a classroom teacher, associate principal/athletic director, principal, planning administrator, chief of secondary education, associate superintendent/chief information officer, and associate superintendent for teaching and learning. He also was associate superintendent for instructional services and technology at Educational Service District 112, and he was interim superintendent at Green Mountain School District.
He has been involved in the community as president of the board of directors for the Children’s Center, board member for Junior Achievement of Oregon and Southwest Washington, and co-chair of the Marshall Youth Leadership Award program. In 1999, he received the Gen. George C. Marshall Public Leadership Award. Stromme also has served as a board member for the Washington Association of School Administrators.
