State patrol blames speeding for Sunday crash

A 64-year-old Vancouver man will be charged with driving under the influence after a crash that occurred at about 5:28 p.m. Sunday on northbound Interstate 205 in Vancouver.

Washington State PatrolAccording to the Washington State Patrol, David A. Cook was merging onto I-205 from state Route 500 in a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria when he lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway and entered the northbound lanes broadside.

Cook’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side door by a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 51-year-old Kenneth R. Lowe Jr., of Kalama. Both vehicles then continued toward the left shoulder and were struck by a 2016 Mini Cooper Countryman driven by 55-year-old Ridgefield resident Mary Kay Sosa, according to the state patrol.

Cook, the only motorist injured in the collisions, was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. His vehicle was totalled.

Sosa and Lowe were not injured, and neither were their passengers, but their vehicles both had reportable damage and were impounded.

The state patrol blames speed for the crash, according to a press memo. Cook is facing a DUI charge as a result of the crash.

All those involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
