Pickup truck collides with train near Camas

Driver was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center with serious, life-threatening injuries

WASHOUGAL — A small pickup truck collided with a train at a crossing near Washougal early Monday morning.

At about 6:23 a.m., Camas Police, Washougal Police and the Camas-Washougal Fire Department were dispatched to a vehicle vs. train collision at the crossing on SE Whitney Street.

Arriving units discovered a small truck was traveling southbound on SE Whitney Street when it collided with a westbound BNSF Train. The truck was driven by a 55-year-old male who was the only occupant of the vehicle. The driver was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center with serious, life-threatening injuries.  No one aboard the train was injured.    

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but it appears that all of the implemented safety equipment near the tracks was functioning at the time of the collision. 

The Camas Police Department is being assisted by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit. 

SE Whitney Street has been closed since the collision and will likely be closed for several hours during the investigation.
