Hit-and-run suspect arrested in Battle Ground

Suspect, 26, has been charged with Assault 1; other charges expected

BATTLE GROUND — A suspect believed to be involved in a hit-and-run accident was taken into custody Wednesday morning in Battle Ground.

At 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, Battle Ground Police officers received a report of a hit and run involving two vehicles that took place south of Battle Ground near the intersection of SR 503 and Caples Rd.  Reports indicated the suspect vehicle was traveling north towards Battle Ground.

As officers attempted to locate the hit-and-run suspect, they received a report of shots fired near the 800 block of SE 2nd Ave in Battle Ground, and a description of a suspect.  Reports indicated the suspect fired shots at the tires of an unoccupied vehicle.

As officers responded, they found the suspect walking on Battle Ground’s East Main Street at about East 4th Ave.  Battle Ground Police officers and Clark County Deputies took the suspect into custody without incident.

Battle Ground Police detectives are continuing to investigate, but have determined that the suspect they took into custody in response to the shots fired report is the same suspect in the earlier hit and run.  There is no continuing danger to the community. Police have recovered the firearm.

The suspect, Ignat G. Danilin, 26, of Aloha, Oregon, has been charged with Assault 1 and booked into the Clark County Jail.  Other misdemeanor charges will be referred to the prosecutor.

The hit-and-run victim is reported to have non-life threatening injuries; Washington State Patrol is leading that investigation and is expected to add charges.

Thanks to the witnesses who called 9-1-1, and the quick response by Battle Ground Police officers and Clark County deputies, the suspect was apprehended without injury to the public, to officers or to the suspect.
