Collision near Battle Ground critically injures motorcyclist

Motorcyclist collided with a Toyota SUV in the 27400 block of NE 182nd Avenue

BATTLE GROUND — On Saturday, at 6:55 p.m., Clark County Fire District 3 personnel and Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies responded to an injury collision in the 27400 block of NE 182nd Avenue in Battle Ground.

Upon arrival, EMS Personnel performed CPR on a motorcyclist that had collided with a Toyota SUV at the location.  The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

According to driver and witness statements, the northbound SUV turned left into the path of the southbound motorcyclist.

The driver and passenger of the SUV suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.  The driver of the SUV is cooperating with the investigation, no charges have been filed at this point in the investigation.  All proximate causes of this collision are being investigated by the CCSO Traffic Unit.

The drivers and vehicles in this collision are identified as follows:

Driver of 2016 Toyota Highlander SUV: Johnny W. Merriman, age 73.  Battle Ground resident.

Operator of 2015 Harley Davidson FX Dyna Street Bob motorcycle: Steven Lenz, age 33.  Vancouver resident.

The roadway in this area is a straight two-lane rural paved roadway, with slight rises and dips that follow the terrain.  The speed limit is 50 mph.

Merriman has been very cooperative during the course of the investigation.  Impairment is not suspected as a causing factor in this collision.
