Clark County Elections to hold political party observer training

Training is for all persons interested in participating as a political party observer during an election cycle

VANCOUVER — Clark County Elections will host its annual political party observer training from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., June 5, in the Elections Conference Room at 1408 Franklin St. This training is for all persons interested in participating as a political party observer during an election cycle.

No person shall serve as an observer unless he or she has received this training.

Election observer training provides an overview of ballot processing, including the inspection process and the ballot counting equipment.

Every election, the political parties assign certified citizens to witness various elections processes. The certified observer serves as a witness for signature verification, inspection boards, actions of other observers, and ensuring that ballots are counted as the voters intended. They also ensure that no properly voted ballot is removed from the election process without authorization of the County Canvassing Board, and no ballot is added to, or substituted for legitimately voted ballots, except to duplicate damaged ballots.

While it is the duty of the political parties to appoint observers, the general public also is invited to attend even though they might not be assigned as official observers.
