City seeks applicants for volunteer Urban Forestry Commission

The advisory role of this commission includes reviewing and informing urban forestry policy and regulation, and administering the Heritage Tree Program and the Urban Forestry Program’s work plan

VANCOUVER – The city of Vancouver is seeking applicants interested in filling two vacancies on its volunteer Urban Forestry Commission. The deadline to apply for these positions is 5 p.m., Wed., May 13.

The advisory role of this commission includes reviewing and informing urban forestry policy and regulation, and administering the Heritage Tree Program and the Urban Forestry Program’s work plan. The Urban Forestry Commission is an active, working group that also performs community outreach by helping to plan and implement tree events, building neighborhood association relationships, supporting public education, and planning community recognition programs related to appreciation of our community’s trees. Those who have an interest in urban forestry and the beautification of Vancouver are urged to apply.

The Urban Forestry Commission has seven citizen members who can serve two, four-year terms.  The commission meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St., the third Wednesday of each month.

These positions are currently held by individuals whose terms are expiring and they may reapply. Per Vancouver City Council policy, all incumbents who wish to reapply for their positions will be re-interviewed along with any qualifying applicants. All applicants must be available for interviews on Wed., June 3.
