56-year-old driver of semi-truck cited for negligent driving after Tuesday afternoon crash on state Route 14
VANCOUVER — A 46-year-old Camas man was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Tuesday after his vehicle was rear- ended by a semi-truck on state Route 14 in Vancouver.
Robert W. Stevens was driving eastbound near Mile Post 6 when he stopped his 2007 Toyota Sequoia SUV for traffic at about 5:20 p.m. That’s when a 2008 Peterbilt semi-truck pulling a trailer failed to follow suit, colliding with the rear of Stevens’ vehicle, which was pushed into a third vehicle driven by Casey M. Malasig, 38, of Vancouver.
Malasig and the driver of the semi-truck — Cosme A. Hernandez, 56, of Prosser — were not injured, but Stevens was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, according to a memo from the Washington State Patrol.
Stevens’ vehicle was totaled in the crash. The semi-truck and the Chevrolet Silverado driven by Malasig had reportable damage but were both driven from the scene.
The state patrol reported the cause of the crash as speed, an unsafe lane change and following too closely.
Hernandez was cited for negligent driving, according to the state patrol, which also reported that all three drivers were wearing seat belts and that drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
