Ridgefield 4th of July celebration an all-day affair

RIDGEFIELD — The annual Ridgefield 4th of July celebration is set for Tue., July 4 with a full day of activities designed for all ages in the city of Ridgefield.

The day’s schedule of events begins with the Firefighters Association Pancake Breakfast, to be held from 7-10 a.m. at the Ridgefield Community Center, located at 210 N. Main Ave.

The annual Fun Runs will get started at 8 a.m. at N. Main Avenue and Simons Street. The cost for the 10K run is $30, or $40 with a tech shirt. The 5K run has a $20 entry fee, or $30 with a tech shirt. Registration on the day of the race is an additional $5.

The popular Pet and Kid Pre-Parade begins along the parade route at 10:15 a.m. Participants are encouraged to gather at the corner of Pioneer Street and Main Avenue. Admission is free and no registration is required.

The theme for this year’s Ridgefield 4th of July Parade is “Wild, Wild, West’’ and it is sponsored by Corwin Distributing. It will start at 11 a.m. Staging will be held in Abrams Park and the parade route is from Main and Division to N. 8th Street.

The Lions Club Hamburger BBQ will be held from noon-6 p.m. at Overlook Park.

Kids Day, sponsored by UNFI and Dollar Tree, will follow the parade at Ridgefield Refuge Overlook Park (Pioneer & Main). It will run from noon-6 p.m. and will include face painting, a magician, childrens’ inflatables and more. Wristbands are $5 and include activities for all day.

Entertainment will be provided at Overlook Park. Tony Starlight will perform from 12:30-2:30 p.m., followed by the Ramblin’ Band from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

The popular Pie Eating Contest will take place on the stage at 2:15 p.m. Participation is free to those under 18 years. Participants can sign up at the souvenir booth.

Food, drink and craft vendors will be set up in and around Overlook Park from noon-6 p.m. Dancing in the Park (High Fidelity Entertainment) will take place in Overlook Park from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

The days activities will culminate with the Fireworks Display from 9:30-10 p.m. at the Port of Ridgefield near the Marina. Viewing will be available from Railroad Avenue or Port property north of Division. No outside fireworks will be permitted.
