Week of Action to Save the Children Photo Display
October 19 @ 9:00 am - 8:00 pm UTC-7
An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until October 19, 2019
The Vancouver Community Library will be home to photo display next week as part of a larger, nationwide effort to raise awareness around the challenges facing children living in war-torn areas. The photo gallery will be on display October throughout the week in the Skamania Room on the fourth floor of the library located at the 901 C Street Location.
The library will join dozens of other libraries and communities all over the country displaying photos as part of the Stop the War on Children (SWOC) Week of Action initiative spearheaded by Save the Children Action Network (SCAN). Groups and organizations across the nation will be hosting photo galleries and gatherings for people to write to their members of Congress encouraging them to support resolutions to end attacks on schools in war-torn countries.
In conflicts around the world, schools are being deliberately bombed, torched and destroyed. Students and teachers are threatened, killed, raped, kidnapped and recruited by armed groups at and on the way to school. The library will have postcards available by the photo display on Wednesday, October 16th from 6:30-8:30pm for patrons to write and encourage Congress to act.
Background on the Week of Action: From October 13 – 19, Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) is organizing the Stop the War on Children (SWOC) Week of Action to raise awareness around the challenges children living in war zones face.
Today, nearly 1 in 5 children around the world are living in conflict zones. Increasingly, schools are being deliberately bombed, torched and destroyed. Through the Stop the War on Children Week of Action we will increase awareness and inspire action in support of a bipartisan resolution calling for an end of attacks on education in war zones.
