“The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is full of flowers, each carried by someone committed to ending this disease,” said Tracy Morgan, the executive director of Alzheimer’s Association Oregon and Southwest Washington. “Because like flowers, our participants don’t stop when something’s in their way.”

There will be a Promise Garden ceremony, as well. That is an experience that signifies solidarity in the fight against the disease.

The ceremony begins at 1 p.m. and the 2-mile walk will start at 1:15 p.m. To register online, go to alz.org/walk. This is a fundraiser with various options for teams or individuals. Go to the site for more information.

  • Registered participants will receive a flower, with four color options.
  • Blue represents someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
  • Purple is for those who have lost someone to the disease.
  • Yellow represents someone who is currently supporting or caring for a person living with Alzheimer’s.

Orange is for those who support the cause, and the association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

In Washington, there are more than 120,000 people living with the disease and close to 300,000 caregivers.
