The City of Vancouver will celebrate the grand opening of the Vancouver Navigation Center, a day center for people who are homeless, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. The center is located at 2018 Grand Blvd., Vancouver.
The community is invited to attend the grand opening event, which will include official remarks at 4 p.m. followed by guided tours of the center. Staff from the city and Share, the local non-profit that will operate the center, will be available to answer questions, and light refreshments will be served. Parking will be available in the lot next to the center. View the event invitation.
About the Navigation Center
The Vancouver Navigation Center at 2018 Grand Blvd. will offer a variety of services to people who are homeless, including restrooms, showers, laundry, storage for personal belongings, mail, phone charging stations and clothing.
In addition, local agencies will offer mental health counseling, case management, job search assistance, transportation assistance and limited food service, all in an effort to help transition homeless people from the streets and into housing.
The center is operated by Share and will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will replace the existing temporary day center located in the Friends of the Carpenter facility on W. 20th Street in downtown Vancouver.
The City purchased the center’s property in January 2018 and renovation work began over the summer. The quick completion of the renovation is due in large part to generous donations of both money and labor from a number of local businesses and charitable organizations.
