Activities scheduled throughout the day, concluding with a tree lighting ceremony

Ridgefield is ready to become everybody’s hometown, at least for a day.

The city’s Hometown Celebration is Saturday, with a full day’s schedule of events that concludes with a tree lighting ceremony and a visit to Candy Cane Lane.

“Enjoy the hometown holiday spirit of historic Downtown Ridgefield where you will find twinkling lights, decorated businesses, gifts, food, and holiday specials,” according to the city’s website.

Activities begin at 9 a.m., including the Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K/10K.

The Holiday Food and Gift Vendor Marketplace at Main Ave., and Overlook Park is open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The Circle of Trees Decorating Contest is at 9 a.m. at Overlook Park. Businesses decorate the trees and then the community will vote on their favorites.

The Ridgefield Garden Club will hold a workshop for children to make and take home their own Evergreen centerpiece. That is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., also at Overlook Park.

The Old Liberty Theater is hosting visits with Santa Claus from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There will be performances from local school bands and choirs from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the main stage at Overlook Park from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Small groups and solo artists will be out and about, as well.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony at Overlook Park begins at 4:30 p.m. Celebrate with a performance from DanceFusion NW, holiday carols, and complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, while supplies last.

The Bella Noche Homeowners Association is bringing back its Candy Cane Lane for the second year. Santa Claus and The Grinch are expected to be there, as well. New coats, winter gear, and monetary donations are accepted to benefit the Ridgefield Family Resource Center, but they are not required for entry. This is a free event. Also, if you cannot make it Saturday night, the lights will be turned on all month of December.

C-TRAN will have a free shuttle service to Candy Cane Lane from the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

There is also a hayride throughout town and a gingerbread house contest, and more. For more information and more events, see the city’s Hometown Celebration page at: https://ridgefieldwa.us/356/December-First-Saturday
