“Jeeves Takes a Bow” 1st 2019 Mainstage Magenta Show
“Jeeves Takes a Bow” – a comedy adapted by Margaret Raether from the stories of P.G. Wodehouse.
Directed by Casey Faubion, and produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc., this witty and faithful adaptation is Magenta Theater’s first show of its 17th season and will be presented February 1-16, 2019. Set in a 1930s New York bachelor pad, Bertie inflicts his charming ineptitude on America when he adventures across the pond armed only with his handsome fortune, talent for trouble, and his remarkable manservant Jeeves. But when a childhood friend gets Bertie mixed up with a vengeful thug named “Knuckles” McCann, he ends up mistakenly engaged to the meddling Vivienne Duckworth. What ho, what ho!
Casey Faubion played Eustace in Magenta’s 2018 production of “Jeeves Intervenes” and is eager to bring Bertie Wooster and his faithful valet, Jeeves, back to the Magenta stage. Naturally, Phil Giesy reprises the title role of Jeeves, while David Roberts plays Bertie Wooster. Although it was not a ‘given’ that the two main roles would be played by Giesy and Roberts, director Casey Faubion instinctively knew that casting them in roles they so memorably created in 2018 was the best choice! Bertie’s friend, Nigel (Binky) Bingham-Binkersteth, is portrayed by Steven Bull who coincidentally understudied the role of Bertie in last year’s production. Muscling his way into the awfully proper Wooster domicile is Tony Provenzola, playing Knuckles McCann; while Dana Black delights as Ruby LeRoy – a role very, very unlike her portrayal of Aquanetta in Magenta’s recent “Once Upon a Palace Purple!” Ms. Gina George brings the role of Vivienne Duckworth to life with zest and humour, and of course a generous helping of sass! Mr. Faubion has a couple of extra thugs assisting with scene changes…..the husband/wife team of Jennifer and Matt Thoreson. Because, after all, who doesn’t want to play a thug onstage with their spouse?
