TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY! Magenta Theater’s First MagenTOTS Production of 2020

Magenta Theater, located at 1108 Main Street in downtown Vancouver, continues with their new children’s theater program – MAGENTOTS in 2020.  The debut performances of Sleeping Beauty and The Wizard of Oz in 2019 confirmed the value of theater FOR kids BY adults on the Washington side of the river.  So it continues! The first production for 2020 is Jack and the Beanstalk, a short play for young audiences by Marjorie Sokoloff, directed by Kristen Bennett.

Jack’s life is tough.  He and his mother have no money, no food, a run-down house, and an opera-singing cow that won’t give milk.  Then Jack meets a mysterious stranger, who gives him three magic beans, along with an even more mysterious piece of advice that sets Jack climbing up a beanstalk and into the clouds.  There, he meets a Giant who would do anything to change places with him.  With the help of a wise-cracking hen and a self-absorbed cow, can all of their problems be solved?

“The playwright, Marjorie Sokoloff, is able to grab onto a difficult question in a young person’s life, lock eyes with the monster, never let go, never condescends, and make us all laugh at the same time.  Jack and the Beanstalk explores what it means when a child needs to take charge, and how it feels to grow up a whole lot sooner than expected.  Sokoloff approaches the sensitive, important subject with candor, tact, wacky humor, and some very real solutions.” Wendy Dann, Associate Artistic Director, Hangar Theatre, Ithaca, NY

This year there will be two performances of each “TOTS” production – last year only one was offered, and as they both sold out, the company has added a second performance.

Tickets www.MagentaTickets.com/tickets $8 in advance, $10 at the door if available. Children under 9 months are admitted free.  Best suited for ages 4-10 but everyone welcome!
