Clark County Poet Laureate Celebration
September 30 @ 2:00 pm
Join the celebration as the Clark County Arts Commission names Gwendolyn Morgan as the new Clark County Poet Laureate on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Vancouver Community Library , 901 C Street.
The celebration will include “passing of the pen” from the county’s Inaugural Poet Laureate Christopher Luna, who served 2013-2017. There will be readings and performances to express the creative energy of collaboration among art forms: poetry, music, dance, and visual art.
Gwendolyn Morgan is a poet and visual artist. Her first book of poems Crow Feathers, Red Ochre, Green Tea, was a winner of the Wild Earth Poetry Prize, Hiraeth Press. Snowy Owls, Egrets and Unexpected Graces was been named as a 2017 Foreward Indies Book of the Year Awards Finalist in the Nature Category and Nautilus Book Award Winner, Gold in Poetry. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College and M.Div. from San Francisco Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union, and currently serves as Manager of Spiritual Care at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.
The poet laureate enriches our community by promoting appreciation and practice of writing and reading poetry. Through speaking engagements and teaching opportunities, the poet laureate demonstrates by example and encouragement the art of language as a powerful means of self-expression. There is beauty, joy and value in finding one’s voice and in hearing others.
