Annual Fundraiser “Shine a Light on Magenta”

July 28 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

$50

Annual Fundraiser “Shine a Light on Magenta”
July 28, 2018 7:30pm
Magenta Theater, located at 1108 Main Street in downtown Vancouver, has embarked on a year-long fundraising effort to replace its aged, tungsten stage-lighting system. This is the largest fundraising campaign since moving into the new location in October 2015. Growing concerns over maintenance, electrical costs, and operator safety have made this project a high priority for the organization.
The fundraiser will be held July 28th at 7:30pm, at the Main Street location. Tickets are now available for $50 each and include two complimentary drinks (beer, wine, soda), appetizers from Elements (formerly known as Willem’s on Main) and a specially designed chocolate truffle from Fleur Chocolatte. Entertainment will feature the Bluegrass Belles – a bluegrass band consisting of Magenta Theater musicians, a special performance by MIT (Magenta Improv Theater), an original one act, and the debut of Magenta Rocks! – the company’s new rock choir. All talent is homegrown!
The Bluegrass Belles ring out the music of country, bluegrass, folk, and a touch of rock n roll. The Belles include: Lori Watson, Kathleen Sykora, Hazel Peterson, Michele Glover, with a special appearance by Linda Lee Michelet (last year’s fundraiser’s Peggy Lee!) MIT (Magenta Improv Theater) entertains audiences throughout the year with their fast-paced humorous wit. Typically their shows are 2 hours long, so this fundraiser will see 2 hours of energy in a 30 minute time slot! The original one act, Blind Date, highlights the acting talents of Casey Faubion, Kristen Bennett, Gina George and Amanda Goff. This comedic presentation of how a blind date can play out should resonate with a number of audience members. And finally…..Magenta has a rock choir. This has been a dream of Jaynie Roberts (Executive Artistic Director) for a number of years. Skillfully guided by choir leader, Erin Knittle, the choir will amaze audiences with a variety of classic and more contemporary rock songs. This is their debut performance.
“The benefits of replacing our existing fixtures with a modern LED-based, digital stage lighting system will provide decades of advantages to Magenta Theater and to the environmental concerns of our community,” explained Tom Hubbard, one of Magenta’s lead lighting designers and technicians. “With operating temperatures that are several hundred degrees lower, the planned LED fixtures will significantly increase operator safety and will reduce Magenta’s electrical bill by 70-80%. The benefits are endless!”
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” ― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
