2017 State of the County to be held Thu., Feb. 23, in Vancouver

VANCOUVER ‒ Area residents are invited to attend the 2017 State of the County event from 3-5 p.m. Thu., Feb. 23, at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Sixth St.

The event’s format will be a departure from previous years. Councilor Marc Boldt, who chairs the five-member Board of County Councilors, will speak briefly about the council’s work plan for the coming year.

Sixth St. Council Chair Marc Boldt and County Manager Mark McCauley will each speak and members of the current county council will also respond to questions from those in attendance.

County Manager Mark McCauley will make brief remarks about the accomplishments of county employees and strategic initiatives underway at Clark County.

Following McCauley’s comments, each of the other four councilors will explain her or his philosophy of governing and what his or her focus will be this year.

As a panel, the councilors will answer several questions from the community. Questions will be selected from among those submitted prior to the event via www.clark.wa.gov/councilors/state-county and those submitted at the event.

The council began 2017 with two new members. Councilor John Blom succeeded David Madore as District 3 representative. Councilor Eileen Quiring succeeded Tom Mielke as District 4 representative.

The two newcomers join incumbents Councilor Jeanne E. Stewart of District 1, Councilor Julie Olson of District 2 and Boldt, who was elected countywide.

Following the question-and-answer session, attendees will be able to meet employees and learn about county programs as they enjoy complimentary appetizers and beverages and a no-host bar. Various county departments will have informational tables set up around the room.
