Former vice presidential candidate Rosa Clemente to speak at Clark College’s Jan. 18 event honoring legacy, teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

VANCOUVER — Rosa Clemente, the Green Party’s 2008 vice presidential candidate and a leading scholar on the modern political struggles facing Black and Latinx people, will deliver a keynote speech Wed., Jan. 18 at Clark College in Vancouver to honor the legacy and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Clemente will deliver her speech, “Transformation: A New Era of Social Activism” from noon to 1:30 p.m., Wed., Jan. 18, in the Gaiser Student Center on the main campus at Clark College, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. The event is free and open to the public.

Along with Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party’s 2008 presidential candidate, Clemente made U.S. history by becoming one of the first two women of color on a presidential ticket.

Known as one of the leading scholars on Afro-Latinx identity, Clemente, a doctoral student at the W.E.B. DuBois Department of Afro-American Studies at UMass Amherst, is the co-founder of the National Hip-Hop Political Convention and has sat on the board of several civic and professional organizations, including Black Lives Matter, the National Priorities Project, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to making the federal government’s budget more transparent and accessible, and the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
