One of two baby pigs taken from Bi-Zi Farms returned to mother

VANCOUVER — Community members received some happy news and some sad news over the weekend after first finding out that two baby pigs were stolen from their momma at Bi-Zi Farms sometime overnight on Saturday.

After posting on their Facebook page Sunday morning about the missing piglets, some good news was announced a few hours later that one of the babies was recovered and returned to its mother. According to the owners of Bi-Zi Farms, the piglet was found underneath a vehicle at the home of a Battle Ground family.

Unfortunately, this happy news was met with some sad news later in the day Sunday when it was announced via Facebook that the second baby pig was discovered deceased. A neighboring Battle Ground family, who lived close to where the first baby pig was found, returned home that day and discovered the piglet deceased in their yard.

The two piglets, American Guinea hogs, were only 2 weeks old and are two of three born to the mother pig, Patty. The babies and their mother are actually on loan at Bi-Zi Farms from NW Love All Animal Rescue in Battle Ground, run by Tracy Nichols.

Nichols said they have had Patty, the mother pig, for about a year and these three piglets were her first litter, making this incident even more upsetting for her and everyone at the animal rescue. Every year, NW Love All Animal Rescue provides animals to the pumpkin patch at Bi-Zi Farms, and Nichols said they all work very hard to prepare for this seasonal event.

“We appreciate all of our community support as we solely rely on them to keep this rescue and sanctuary going,” Nichols said. “Two days ago we had a meeting and decided on naming the piglets Larry, Curly and Moe. Sadly, Moe didn’t survive and he was the smallest piglet and needed his mother most.”

“It’s very unfortunate people have to steal without looking at the the whole circumstances,” Nichols continued. “We are so very thankful for everyone in helping find them. We will still continue to help with this event and will be doing more for the community in the future.”

Posts on the Bi-Zi Farms’ Facebook page thanked all of the community members who offered hopes and prayers during this stressful incident, and also let people know how happy momma pig Patty was to have one of her missing babies returned to her.
